Life is bueno in Salt Lake, Honduras, & Korea

First of all, I'm going to Honduras for the summer. I'm pretty excited. It's been three years since I've been in (the United States of) America, and only America, which is pretty much the longest I've ever been in only America since my birth. So it'll be good to return to Latin America, and even though I've never been to Central America, much less Honduras, it feels something like going (coming?) home.

Whilst in Honduras I'll be teaching the LDS Self-Employment Workshop which is a 16 hour faith-based workshop that encourages self-sufficiency through starting one's own business. I'll be teaching in Spanish. It's rather terrifying, but also so so good. I've wanted to go back to Latin America since forever, but I've wanted to go back in some sort of useful capacity and not just as a tourist. So this internship is literally a godsend.

Even though I spent eight years in Latin America they were years spent attending elite private schools and associating with the wealthier portions of the population. While I am so grateful for the experiences I had then, as well as the people I met, I'm excited for the impending three-month immersion where I will live and talk with every-day Hondurans and maybe be able to address the issue of poverty more than just in passing.

I had my first day of training in Salt Lake City today. More than anything I was deeply impressed with the scope and vision of the LDS Welfare Services and I'm excited to be a part of it all at least for a little while.

Anyway, those are my thoughts. And in a week I'll be in Honduras and I'll have stories and pictures and actual experiences! Yippee!

Also, on a side note I talked with my friend Adam the other day and he told me some wonderful news. Adam has been teaching English in Korea for the past year and apparently a little girl came to one of his English classes for the first time and didn't have an English name. So Adam named her Kelsey. I'm pretty sure I love Adam for this. And I for sure love my Korean namesake.

Life is indeed bueno.
