Oh my Nesquik. Pre-sweetened cocoa is the way to go because each Nesquik blob in my morning milk is a delicious chocolaty surprise that I've literally begun to dream about. J'adore.
Yesterday J. & I bought fruits and verduras on the street like real people, went to Institute (hollaaa!) and then out dancing. And when I say out dancing I mean the dance held at our local capilla. We may not be missionaries, but we're not bad-a in any way, shape, or form. I love dancing, and I especially love Honduras for not being uptight about dancing in that my dance skills are actually on par to most everyone else's. It's all punta, with some merengue, and I begged the DJ for just una bachata and he played four. Entonces, pero gracias Mister DJ ;) It was a crazy night in that J. and I stayed out until midnight--oh em goodness--and that my hip injury sustained from over-enthusiastic yoga was exacerbated considerably during the numerous Daddy Yankee songs. Also, we may have walked home late enough to verify that transvestites do indeed frequent our neighborhood (see previous post). Also, getting cat-called at by transvestites is disconcerting on various levels.
In other news, today we graduated our second class--just an itty bitty group of five--but they were delightful and fabulous and we are sad to see them go. Hno. R gifted J. & I these magnificent Mayan stone men from Copan and Hna. N came over after graduation to teach us how to make Pollo alonguia which was super delicious. I love Hna. N because she deals with our ridiculous Spanish so graciously and tells us story after story about her childhood and Honduran folktales (by my request of course). She is also going to teach me how to make tres leches which is my most favorite thing to eat. My other favorite thing is folklore and how gratified people are to be asked to talk about things they know well. I learn a billion in the process and get to make a lot of friends. So gracias folklore.
Also J. is the best casi-companion ever and the church is true and I am happy a million times a day that I am on this internship and in Honduras.
N. is wearing fake hipster glasses and a sweater vest.
J. & I are wearing matching shirts.
Double win.
P. is my favorite.
Taller #2 graduates
Hna. N not only teaches me how to cook, but she made me the apron I'm wearing.
I LOVE HER.
Eating tres leches in the repostreria.
Also my friend Claire got married today and she and her husband will be the happiest because they are both so rad. And that deserves a hip, hip, hurrah :)
